About the Artist
Milladdio works saliently in one medium, namely Swiss-made Caran d'ache neocolour II crayons. The artist has produced portraits for twenty years initially using mixed media but, as his style evolved he decided to concentrate on using the crayons only. As well as being somewhat kitsch, his idiosyncratic use of composition, colour and often proportionally larger heads on bodies are a reflection to work produced in the Renaissance period. Hence, also , the name Milladdio.
To date the portraits have fallen into two distinct categories, i.e., commercial and domestic, the former relating to bar, hotel and restaurant chains. It is not uncommon to find, at a clients request, famous faces from history, film, sport, and the music industry, making illustrative appearances. More recently the artist has included Lord Mayors in his portfolio, both national and international commissions. The commissions relative to family portraits have led to the well- received expansion into paintings of their dogs and cats.
Currently, Milladdio has further expanded into images of racehorses of today and yesteryear which he expects will form the basis of forthcoming exhibitions: a series of racehorses and a number of pieces which show influence from 18th century equestrian art, such as that by George Stubbs, famous for his masterpiece, Whistlejacket.
